Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes won the NL Rookie of the Year award, but he feels Chris Sale is more deserving of the Cy Young.

Former LSU star Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates finished third in the vote for the NL’s top pitching honor, announced Wednesday (Nov. 20) by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.

Yesterday, Pirates ace and 2023 #1 overall pick was named the NL Rookie of the Year. It was a well-deserved award for perhaps the most talented pitcher on the planet, who had a historic rookie campaign.

Shortly after capturing National League Rookie of the Year honors Monday, Paul Skenes weighed in on Wednesday’s Cy Young Award reveal, for which he was also a finalist. “I have a feeling (Atlanta Braves left-handed pitcher Chris) Sale’s got it pretty locked up,

Skenes, who had a 1.96 ERA in 23 starts for the Pirates and struck out 170 in 133 innings, also finished third in NL Cy Young Award voting.

Atlanta Braves pitcher Chris Sale won the award, Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler finished second and Skenes rounded out the top 3. The Pirates' rookie pitcher is the fifth rookie to finish in the top 3 in Cy Young voting. The award was voted on by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
