Five Congressional and state leaders from San Mateo County on Monday called upon embattled Sheriff Christina Corpus to resign, saying her continued tenure impacts public safety.

The calls are growing louder for Corpus to resign, with U.S. Reps. Kevin Mullin and Anna Eshoo, State Sen. Josh Becker, and Assemblymembers Marc Berman and Diane Papan added to the chorus saying her continued tenure impacts public safety.

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Tuesday called on Sheriff Christina Corpus to resign based on recommendations of an independent investigation into allegations of abuse of power in her department.

San Mateo County officials provided forensic evidence on Thursday that Sheriff Christina Corpus sent a homophobic text message. Corpus had previously denied the allegations. County Supervisor Ray Mueller unveiled his evidence at a press conference.
