Californians with iPhones and Apple Watches will now be able to store digital versions of their driver's licenses and identification cards on their devices, state officials announced.

The California DMV has launched a pilot program allowing 1.5 million residents to store their driver's license or state ID in their Apple Wallet, providing a convenient digital option for identity verification at airports and select businesses.

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office on Thursday announced that the state now offers residents the chance to securely add their California driver’s license or state-issued ID to Apple Wallet on their iPhone and Apple Watch. Residents can then use this feature at select businesses and TSA checkpoints at airports in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
