Mexico has been taking a bashing for allegedly serving as a conduit for Chinese parts and products into North America.

Canada wants Mexico to stay in a continental trade pact despite concerns about China possibly using it as a back door to flood the North American market, a source directly familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.

Canada's point person for US-Canada relations said on Tuesday that she shares US concerns about "Mexico serving as a back door for China to import cheaper goods into the North American market," as a review of the trade pact known as the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement looms,

Mexico's president has acknowledged that Canada is concerned about reports of a Chinese company's auto plant in Mexico, but she says it does not exist.

Canada would like to see the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade pact continue but may have to look at other options depending on what choices Mexico makes, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Thursday.

Meeting between the countries' leaders comes amid calls in Canada for that nation to enter a bilateral trade deal with the United States.

Trudeau said he would prefer the North American free trade agreement to remain in place, but that Ottawa was 'leaving all doors open' to secure Canadian interests.
