DALLAS — Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia has told city officials that he plans to retire from law enforcement and appears to be in line to take a new position with the city of Austin, multiple sources told WFAA. The move means Garcia would be joining T.C. Broadnax, Dallas' former city manager who took the same role in Austin earlier this year.

Dallas City Council members said they were caught off guard when they found out Dallas Police Chief Eddie García was on his way out to join former City Manager T.C. Broadnax in Austin as an assistant city manager.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia will retire from the department, a city council member confirmed to KERA. Garcia will become an assistant city manager in Austin.
