Pennsylvania made flag football an officially sanctioned girls' high school sport Wednesday amid a push from the Eagles and Steelers to encourage more female athletes to get on the field.

The sport has emerged across the area. Now, schools will have the support of the PIAA and access to compete for championships sponsored by the state.
