The sport has emerged across the area. Now, schools will have the support of the PIAA and access to compete for championships sponsored by the state.

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, Inc. (PIAA) has declared girls' flag football as an official sport sanctioned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, beginning 2025-2026. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), the PIAA now joins 12 other state associations to sanction girl's flag football.

L-L League athletic directors met Thursday and discussed girls flag football for the first time. They left their meeting with more questions than answers. But once the NFHS and PIAA jibe on the rules and regulations, more programs around the state should start popping up.
