Bread & Roses' producer Malala Yousafzai says the film is a document of the 'gender apartheid' happening in Afghanistan upon the Taliban's return.

"This is, in essence, a gender apartheid, and that's exactly what Afghan women activists and other human rights experts are calling it," Malala Yousafzai tells Newsweek.

Produced by Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence, Bread and Roses is a documentary that captures a modern crisis happening right now. It analyses modern Afghanistan, and the effects of the 2021 offensive that saw The Taliban seize control.
