Matt Gaetz had resigned last week from the 118th session of Congress, but it was unclear whether he would serve in the 119th session, beginning in January.

Gov. Ron Desantis has set the special election to replace former U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz with a primary election on Jan. 28 and a general election on April 1. The Florida Department of State announced the special election timeline Friday afternoon.
