Stock Market LIVE Updates | Sensex and Nifty hit a record high on Thursday, driven by gains in information technology stocks, following the U.S. Federal Reserve decision to initiate its monetary easing cycle with a substantial 50-basis-point rate cut.

The S&P 500 surged to a record high close on Thursday, the day after the Federal Reserve cut interest rates by 50 basis points and indicated more rate cuts were on the horizon. The blue chip Dow Jones Industrial Average also registered a record closing high,

Nifty-50 index and the Sensex though hit record highs on Thursday, however, ended lower with gains of 0.15% and 0.29%

Markets in India were headed for a strong open on Friday, led by overnight gains on the Wall Street, which was driving Asian markets higher as well.

The BSE Sensex briefly crossed the 83,000-mark before closing the session at 82,962.71, up 1,439.55 points or 1.77 per cent. Nifty soared 470.45 points or 1.89 per cent to 25,388.90.
