In a county ravaged by Tropical Storm Helene, farm workers cut down a Christmas tree bound for the White House's Blue Room.

NEWLAND, N.C. — A tree from Cartner’s Christmas Tree Farm in Newland will be presented at the White House next Monday, Nov. 25. The 20-foot tall tree is much more than a Fraser fir. It stands as a symbol of hope and resilience for western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene.

For the second consecutive year, the Official White House Christmas Ornament, created by the White House Historical Association, is available for purchase at The Home Depot.

Despite tree losses on some farms, Greene said farmers across the region — who harvest between 4-5 million Christmas trees annually — are persevering.
